Why Dental Clinicians Need a High-Protein Breakfast (and Why Coffee Alone Isn’t Cutting It)

As dental clinicians, our bodies are our most important tools. We ask a lot of them—long hours, static postures, fine motor control, and repetitive movements that challenge our musculoskeletal system every single day. One of the most overlooked ways to support that system?
Starting the day with enough protein. (see my video on my fave morning smoothie below)
Protein isn’t just for athletes or bodybuilders. It’s essential for maintaining muscle mass, supporting joint stability, and helping our bodies recover from the physical demands of clinical work. A strong body is an injury-resistant body—and that strength starts with how we fuel ourselves.
Too often, mornings look like coffee on an empty stomach or a quick protein bar eaten in the car. While convenient, that approach sets us up for energy crashes, increased cravings, and inconsistent blood sugar throughout the day. When we don’t eat enough protein early on, we’re more likely to over-snack later, especially in the evening when decision fatigue is high.
Research consistently shows that starting the day with a high-protein breakfast leads to better appetite control and lower overall calorie intake, particularly reducing late-night snacking and binge-style eating.
Protein helps regulate hunger hormones, keeps us fuller longer, and provides steady energy—exactly what we need for long procedures and busy schedules.
That’s why I love a high-protein smoothie as a quick, realistic solution. In under five minutes, you can get 50+ grams of protein, along with healthy fats, carbs, and fiber to support sustained energy and muscle health. Check out my quick video on my own personal morning smoothie 👇
This smoothie has become a non-negotiable part of my routine—not just for energy, but for long-term career longevity. Nourishing your body isn’t optional in dentistry. It’s part of protecting your posture, your strength, and your future behind the chair.
For those in my VIP posture club, I have a full video on this from start to finish and other yummy recipes as well!
Your body does the work. Fuel it like it matters—because it does. 💪🦷
